THE GEL PAD WAS NEVER GOING TO FIX THIS
Squashy gel rests feel supportive for about a week and then compress into a lump that angles your wrists worse than nothing at all. Ovik takes the opposite approach: a solid black walnut bar, radiused along the top edge, that supports the heel of your hand at a fixed height and never deforms. It is cut to the actual width of your board, so it runs flush rather than overhanging. After a few days of typing on it, going back to a soft rest feels like typing into a cushion.
WHY THIS EARNS ITS PLACE ON YOUR DESK
- Holds a fixed support height — so it does not compress into a lump and start angling your wrists the wrong way.
- Radiuses the top edge — removing the hard line that a square-cut bar presses into your palm.
- Cuts to three keyboard widths — so the rest finishes flush with your board instead of overhanging it.
- Grips through a full-length base strip — which stops it walking forward during a fast typing session.
- Finishes in a sealed oil — so hand contact darkens it attractively rather than staining it.
